CANDLE CARE

The first burn of your candle sets the tone for all subsequent ones. Did you know wax has memory? This means that, every subsequent burn will get it back to its previous state. Therefore, burn your candle for 4 hours to begin with, as this will give it time to melt the wax completely thus achieving best hot throw and best subsequent performance every time you light it again.

Do not burn for less than 1 hour, as this may lead to tunnelling.

Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Trim the wick to approximately 7mm before burning.

Never burn in draughty areas.

SOY WAX

Help! I've burnt my candle for a while and now it's gone all uneven on top. What did I do?

My friend, welcome to the world of 100% soy. The uneven after-burn, something that reminds me of the lunar surface, is proof that Casa Saffron only uses 100% soy wax with no additives. Don't worry about the look of the candle, it will not affect its performance one bit.

OK but I have bought soy candles in the past and none of them re-set like this! Why is that?

By law, a candle in the UK can be advertised as "soy candle" provided it contains 51% soy wax. This means that the 49% can be, and very often is, paraffin and other additives. A 100% soy wax that re-sets into a shiny smooth perfect surface does not exist. It is a paraffin candle with soy.

Why don't you add some additives to these candles?

I abhor greenwashing and therefore will never pedal an unsubstantiated claim. I do not believe that paraffin will kill us and I do not believe that vegetable waxes provide "cleaner burns". What does that even mean? However, I firmly believe that unless I have to use petroleum [which is where paraffin is derived from] or plastic, then I should leave it out. The responsibility of a business is, in my view, far greater than the one of the individual and therefore I choose not to create candles that contain by-products of petroleum and I do not ship them in plastic.

I have burnt my candle for 4 hours first off as recommended but it needed more like 5 to melt completely... What happened?

100% soy wax is particularly dense which makes for an exceptionally slow burn. When combined with oils, certain candles may take longer under certain circumstances. Our Irish Coffee is particularly slow-burning, which means you may find all morning is needed to melt into a pool of wax especially if you are burning it in a cold-ish room.

WEDDING SERVICES

I'd love to have a special scent created for my wedding, but why does it take so long?

The six-month lead time to develop, manufacture and deliver your candles for your special day is down to many factors, namely the time it will take us to decide on three suitable fragrances, so that you can choose one, and the curing time of 100% soy candle, which stands at 2-3 weeks for optimal results. As is often the case with weddings, contact us as early as possible!

I am OK with the scents you already provide, can I make a big order for these but in different containers?

Yes, you can but contact us well in advance, so that we can discuss size, look and feel, and lead times.

My wedding is not big, can I use this service for a small-ish order?

Sure you can. You don't have to purchase thousands of candles, but please bear in mind that we have a minimum order of 50 and that development of a bespoke scent starts at £600.

Can I mix-and-match, so that my bridesmaids get one thing and the favours for the guests are something else?

Yes, you can. Whether clear big jars or votives or anything else, we can do this as part of the same order.

I would like a floral scent for the wedding, or maybe something with oud... Do you do this?

Sure we do! Even though Casa Saffron specialises in evocative food scents, our bespoke service knows no such limitations.

CORPORATE SERVICES

I love it that you provide corporate services, does that mean we can get branded candles?

Yes, it does. Bear in mind though that this is an extensive process and that we need good advance notice in order not to disappoint.

How much does it cost to have a fragrance developed for corporate purposes?

It is £1000+VAT, with the cost of the candle order, depending on how many pieces you require and in what size, in addition to that. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

Is there a minimum order?

100 pieces.

I like the candles you make, I do not need a new scent, can we use one or two of those in branded jars?

Of course we can, and yes, you can mix n' match scents too.

BESPOKE SERVICE

How is this different from the corporate and wedding services?

You may wish to develop your own scent and only order one candle. You can.

How about a bespoke fragrance for my parents' anniversary? Or my son's graduation?

Anything works, we can work with you to develop a special scent for any reason or none at all! Then you can decide how many candles you want. We then keep the details of your scent on file so that you can return at any point in the future for more orders of the same.

How much is it to develop a scent?

£600+VAT.

And how long does it take?

A minimum of 6 weeks.

REFILL SERVICE

I'd love to have my Casa Saffron jars refilled, how do we do this?

I love to refill too, as it is a fantastic way to re-use your jar. I ask you, however, to send your empties back clean and in their original Casa Saffron boxes with lids on, as they are designed to keep the jars safe whilst in transit. Here to purchase.

Do I have to refill with the same scent as stated on the label?

No, you choose the scent at check-out and I'll do the rest. Your allergen label will be changed to reflect the new contents.

Can we refill anything at all? I've got some vintage glasses I'd love to up-cycle.

As a general rule, most glasses and cups are safe for candles because they are designed to withstand much hotter temperatures that the ones of the melting wax. A teacup is safe for 100C water, whilst a melted pool of wax would sit at approximately 45C. As a general rule, something that is microwave and dishwasher safe is safe for candles. However, some items are more fragile and are best assessed in isolation. Contact us with your query and we will help you!
